Sherrill SEMKO Obituary
It is with deep sadness that the family of Sherrill Joan Semko announce her passing on November 24, 2017 in Saskatoon. Sherrill was born on October 4, 1939 in Saskatoon. She attended Caswell Elementary School and Bedford Road and Nutana High Schools. After Robertson Secretarial School she worked for Henry Bonli at his design store. She excelled working there and her flare for decorating was evident in the many homes she decorated throughout her life. On August 5, 1959 she married her love Peter Semko. Four children arrived in the next five years which kept her very busy. Peter and Sherrill celebrated 58 years together this past August. In 1979, Sherrill worked together with Peter and they built and owned for 28 years Greenbryre Country Club, retiring ten years ago. Sherrill was active in every part of the business with Peter, the essence of a true working partnership. Sherrill was predeceased by her loving daughter, Whitney Semko; parents, John and Lola McAskill; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Judy McAskill; sister, Elaine McAskill; parents-in- law, Peter and Anne Semko; brother-in-law, Pat Bobyn and sister-in-law, Les Campbell. She is survived by her loving husband, Peter Semko; children, Jay Semko (Colli), Shauna George (Don), David Semko (Nicole); grandchildren, Christine Wood (Kevin); Brianna Burtt (Mark), Michael George (Alana), Alexandra Biddell, Jackson Semko, Olivia Semko, Grace Semko, Ella Semko; great-grandchildren, James, Declan, Ethan, Natalie; cousin, Mary Glauser; sister-in-law, Holly Bobyn; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Vi Ormshaw; brother-in-law, Bob Campbell and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and family across Canada. Sherrill loved her family, big family dinners in which she cooked for days before, entertaining friends, travelling to Palm Springs, the joy of decorating a home, and the simple joy of being surrounded by those she loved. Mom was an advocate of "The Golden Rule" to treat others as you would wish to be treated, and with this in mind the family gratefully declines flowers but asks that you do something kind for others in her remembrance. Sherrill was deeply loved and will be missed. The Celebration of her Life will take place on Monday, December 4 at 2:00 p.m. from Saskatoon Funeral Home with Rev. Joan Brown presiding. Dear Peter, Jay, Shauna, David and extended family. We are truly sorry to hear of Sherrill's passing. We first met the Semkos when they moved into the house across the lane on Kirk Crescent in Saskatoon. My mother Margaret said it best--"she was a kind friend and the best neighbour I ever had ". When we regretfully had to move away, Sherrill helped pack up and organize a successful garage sale . This was the type of person she was. Please accept my sincere condolences to the entire Semko family. I was saddened to hear of her passing, however know of many memories family and friends can cherish forever.
Aside from Mrs.Semko raising 3 kind, respectful, and talented children, she was also instrumental in paving business and professional golf careers for dozens of successful men and women, some of whom are aware, many of those unaware, never having met Mrs.Semko. It was her dedication to family, and hard work that make us forever grateful for her attention to detail and organization, often behind the scenes. My condolences to the entire Semko family. Some of my happiest memories are family visits back to Saskatoon. Sherill and Peter, as well as Jay, Shauna, and David welcomed us into their home or golf club each year. Our parents laughed, relived memories, and reconnected. The kids formed our own relationships and enjoyed our own fun. In recent years, I have been fortunate to visit with Sherill and Peter on several occasions. Thanks Sherill for your warmth, generosity, and intelligent conversations. Rest in Peace.
