Audrey Fay Nelson

Muncie - Audrey Fay Nelson, 84, went to heaven Sunday evening, February 10, 2019 surrounded by family at her residence.

She was born on October 10, 1934 in Fargo, North Dakota, the daughter of Fred E. and Lucille L. (Engelking) Ackermann and graduated from Fargo High School in 1952. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of North Dakota in 1956. On August 4, 1956 in Fargo, North Dakota, she married the love of her life, Richard V. "Dick" Nelson.

In college, she worked at Hudson's Department Store in Minneapolis, MN where she learned to make beautiful bows which she always loved to give on presents to others. Later, she worked as a substitute teacher and teacher's aide in several states. She also coached cheerleading in Peoria, IL, but the title she loved best was Homemaker. Audrey was a member of High Street United Methodist Church for 41 years, where she was active in Naomi Circle and High Street Travelers.

She was a Delta Gamma Alumni, SAE Sweetheart and drum majorette in college. Audrey loved to travel and was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching her grandchildren's sporting activities. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family.

Surviving are one daughter, Kim Thomas (husband, Will) of Bloomington: one son, Kyle Nelson (wife, Suzanne) of Muncie; four grandchildren, Kyle Thomas (wife, Celina) of Bloomington, Whitney Thomas (Ethan Hunt) of Columbia, SC, Ryan Nelson (wife, April) of Fort Wayne, Kevin Nelson (Marcy Grey) of Zionsville; four great-grandchildren, Ava Thomas, Ezekiel Thomas, Otto Nelson, Aria Nelson and Cohen Nelson, due in May, 2019; and her special friend, Earl Caudill of Brewster, MA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 39 years, Richard V. "Dick" Nelson; one brother, Robert F. Ackermann and one sister, Betty Flatt.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019 at High Street United Methodist Church, 219 S. High Street, Muncie with Pastor Charlotte Overmyer officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery.

Family and friends may call at High Street United Methodist Church, 219 S. High Street, Muncie, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019
