Mary Anna (Slater) Kibbey, 101

MATTHEWS - Mary Anna (Slater) Kibbey, 101, of Matthews, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday morning, January 15, 2016 at Colonial Oaks Health and Rehab, Marion.

Mary was born in Matthews, the daughter of the late Frank and Hazel (Wills) Slater. She was a 1933 graduate of Matthews High School.

On January 1, 1937, Mary married her high school sweetheart, Doyte E. Kibbey, in Willow Branch, Indiana.

Mrs. Kibbey was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, Matthews, where she taught Sunday school, for more than fifty years, and was a member of the United Methodist Women, and sang in the choir and lady's trio. She was a member of the New Mulberry Home Economics Club and formerly served as a Girl Scout Leader. She was also a former cook at Matthews Elementary School.

Mary enjoyed quilting and she sang in the Marion Easter Pageant for over twenty-five years. She primarily enjoyed spending time and cooking for family and friends. She was lovingly considered as Mom and Grandma to countless others, as well.

In addition to her husband of seventy-nine years, Doyte, survivors include a son, Richard (Kay) Kibbey, Marion; two daughters, Becky (Bill) Swathwood, Matthews, and Ruth Ann (Dr. James) Botkin, Marion; nephew, James P. (LaRea) Slater, Matthews; a sister, Juanita (Amos) Arney, Michigan City; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Slater, Philip Slater, and Charles Slater; two sisters, Bertha Deemer and Louise Arthur; and a grandson, Troy Swathwood.

Services are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Epworth United Methodist Church, 105 W. Eighth St., Matthews, IN with Rev. Jan Bunch officiating. Interment will be at Matthews Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, January 18, 2016 at Jones-Smith Funeral Home, 259 N. Main St., Upland.
