Jim Harrison has left a permanent impression upon my days. His writings and art bring such comfort and joy. His desire to preserve the way of life in our Southern towns and farmlands rings so true to my childhood days in Athens, GA (1941-1963) and the University of Georgia College of Agriculture and its Veterinary College. I saw a way of life that I have sorely missed for decades since.
I am 80-years of age this year (2022). I regret that I never had the opportunity to walk in his shadow and just get to know the man.
To his wife, children and family, your husband and dad filled a void in my heart that longs for days gone by in the South. I am forever grateful for his contributions over the years.
His work will live on forever and I will appreciate him for as long as I live. Maybe if I make it to heaven's gates, Jim will allow me to help him paint a Coke sigh on the side of some heavenly barn in the life after. That would truly be an out-of-body experience for me.

Hi Jim: Three quick years have passed since you left us. But you did not leave us either. We remember you, your good spirit, and the light you left us through your incredible talent to help us view our past as we live in the present.

Family of Cousin Jim,
We had such a nice visit with him at the gallery in Denmark in June 2015. My grandchildren and daughter enjoyed meeting Jim so much and we have been talking about our trip ever since. I wanted to call Jim and when I went on-line I saw he passed 4 months ago. I will miss him so much.

Jim was an American art icon who successfully captured the images of America's past. We will always treasure the memories of our visits to his studio and watching him work on new projects. There was something so naturally likeable about him that we felt he could have been a family member. We were very fortunate to have had the opportunity to speak with him on numerous occasions and appreciate his art.

Not many people have made such positive contributions to the world, and we are all thankful for the many you have left with us. Yours is a legacy that will live throughout the ages. Thank You Good Sir!! I'm certain that we'll continue to see your masterpieces every time we look at the clouds!

I live in Alabama but every time I visited my brother in Columbia, SC, I would insist on visiting Jim's Gallery! A fantastic guy and artist and I have many of his prints hanging in my home. I also have most of his books and some were signed by him with his cute little drawings by his signature. The detail and life like quality of his prints are amazing! He was so friendly and I immediately felt like I had known him for years even the first time I met him. I will greatly miss not seeing him and my thoughts and prayers will be with his family.

The first time I met Jim, I could not believe his down home attitude and how he would take time to meet and talk to each and every one that visited his gallery. I know I will miss seeing his friendly face when I visit his gallery. However, I will see that face every time I look at one of the framed prints I have in my home. I will miss him dearly, he was a great man.

Like many other South Carolinians, I loved Jim Harrison - his beautiful artwork and the person he was. Whenever I visited his shop or saw him at an event, he was always kind and willing to chat. His art so thoughtfully and perfectly captured our wonderful state and the joy of country living. I'm sad he will no longer be around to paint more beauty, but I'm thankful for the works and memories he leaves behind. My condolences to his wife and family.

And, I have 17 of his prints and one original he gave me long ago. Ca. 8 are on the walls of my home and office. But even more, I enjoyed being your brother's friend. Take care guys and know of God's peace for you all and Jim. Don Stevenson

My deepest sympathy for Margaret and family. Jim was my second cousin. I have admired his work for a very long time. I will treasure his one painting that I own. There is also one of his paintings in Lamberts restaurant here and I have always shown it off to friends and family. May God comfort you all in this time.

We have lost a treasure. Jim's work brings joyful memories to so many. We will miss him, but be reminded of him with every picture he painted. We pray the family finds comfort in this difficult time knowing that his art meant so much to so many.

On behalf of Mr. Andrew Washington, our family would like to extend our deepest condolences. Mr. Harrison and our father were best of friends. Our home is a personal exhibit of many of his works and he allowed our father to partake in his legacy as an employee in the gallery. Unfortunately, our father Andrew is hospitalized at the moment, but that is the only thing that would keep them apart during this time. Denmark, SC is a better town because of Mr. Harrison. Our city is forever indebted to his generosity and core belief that you don't have to run to the big city to be successful.

Jim was a good man who helped people in many different ways, including service, involvement, and his precious time. He wanted the best for all of us and our little spot on the face of the earth. Able to live anywhere he wanted, he chose right here for his home, and us for his neighbors. We thank you, Jim.
