WRENTHAM – John M. Bowmar passed away Sunday, February 7, 2021 at the Maples Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wrentham at the age of 89.
Born January 24, 1932 in Boston, he was a son of the late Rev. John M. and Elsie Pentleton Bowmar and brother of Marilyn Benker.
He was a graduate of Plainville High School and a graduate of Northeastern University with honors. John received a M.S. from the University of Maine.
A veteran, he served in the Air Force with time spent mostly in Alaska. He chaired the Chemistry Department at Newark Academy in New Jersey for many years and then became a science and math editor for Houghton Mifflin Publishing Company, followed by freelance editorial work.
In addition to his sister, John leaves two nieces: Jill Benker Seaberg and Sharon Benker Barnes and a nephew John Frederick Benker.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Maples for all their help and kindness to John over the years.
Burial will be in the family lot at Plainville Cemetery at a later time.
Arrangements entrusted to Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro.
