Rita J. Christensen Carpenter, of Plainville, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on February 13, 2021 at the age of 92. Born in Boston on March 24, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Frederik and Agnes (Thomsen) Renner. Rita was the wife of the late Roswell "Babe" S. Christensen who died in 1977 and the late Lawrence H. Carpenter who died in 2001.

In her younger years, Rita enjoyed cooking for her relatives and friends. She loved birds and would often spend hours watching them. She cherished being surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and also loved to travel. She was fortunate to be able to visit everywhere she ever wished to go. One of her favorite destinations was Denmark where she was able to spend time with her many relatives.

Rita was the mother of David Christensen and his wife, Cindy, Jean Yuryan and her husband, Richard, Karen Christensen and her husband, Randy Cruz, and the late Eric Christensen and is survived by Larry's daughters, Dianne Smith and her husband, Peter and Joyce Ferney and her husband, Bill. She was the sister of the late Eric Renner, the loving and doting grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and the aunt to many nieces and nephews, but was especially close to her niece, Ellen Renner and her nephew, the late John Renner.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Accent Hospice Care and to Rita's granddaughter, Jeanie Newell, who took wonderful care of her so she could remain at home.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend graveside services at 10 AM on Saturday, February 20th at the Plainville Cemetery, West Bacon Street, Plainville. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all attending must wear masks and practice social distancing. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita's memory may be made to Plainville United Methodist Church, 16 E Bacon Street, Plainville, MA 02762.
