William Fitzpatrick Obituary

William (Bill) Francis Fitzpatrick Jr., 65, of Winter Haven, FL., passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday May 5th, 2021.

Bill leaves behind his devoted and loving wife of almost 42 years, Susan (Sue) Fitzpatrick and his five children, Michelle McCann of North Attleboro, Jennifer Fitzpatrick of North Attleboro, Stacy McConnell and her husband Matthew of Bedford, NH, Erin Ylijoki and her husband Garrett of Attleboro, and William (Billy) Fitzpatrick III and his wife Amy of Plainville MA. He was the son of the late William Francis Fitzpatrick Sr. and Helen Fitzpatrick of Plainville, MA and brother to Lynne Habarek of Woonsocket, RI. Bill also leaves behind his seven cherished grandchildren, Brennah McCann, Keegan and Declan Walker, Teghan and Gavin McConnell, and Autumn and Austin Ylijoki.

Bill and Sue retired to Winter Haven, FL after raising their family in North Attleboro, MA for over 30 years. They loved the retired life and he enjoyed watching the pond across their street for gator sightings, the rabbits eating their garden, and the geckos climbing their screen porch walls. Bill, also known to many as "Fitzy", was the original founder/owner of Fitzy's Pub in Plainville, MA for 27 years along with other ventures over the years. He was an avid Patriots fan spanning over six decades and leaves behind many great memories for anyone who ever watched or went to games with him.

His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he loved watching them at all their sporting events. Nicknamed "Fumpi", "Fumpy", or "Funpy" (depending on who you ask), his grandchildren always made him smile and he was very proud of all of them. His wife and children laughed at what a softy he became around the grandkids and how he turned into a huge teddy bear with a heart of gold.

There will be many fond memories of him attending football games and cheer, wrestling, fishing, and other fun "Fitzy" family events.

A celebration of life event will be held at a later date and the family respectfully asks that donations be made instead of flowers.

Bill was a compassionate person to those in need and donations to Lenore's Pantry https://www.nattleboro.com/board-of-health/pages/lenores-pantry-0 in North Attleboro in his memory would be greatly appreciated. Also, donations in his memory can be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center online https://giving.joslin.org/site/Donation2;jsessionid=00000000.app20118b?idb=1944070468&df_id=3500&mfc_pref=T&3500.donation=form1&NONCE_TOKEN=B4400348FE1D65A58AD0D1B19CD5761F&3500_donation=form1 .

Billy was a great friend. I'm so saddened to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you Sue and all of your kids and grandchildren. We had so many fun times together coaching, at the pub, parties, and adventures. Sue and Billy were a big part of those amazing years raising our kids and the community we all shared together. All the Gill's remember him so fondly.

Throughout the years Billy and I lost track of each other but whenever his name came up in conversation I was, and still am, proud to say we were friends. Earlier in our lives we had some great, memorable times together.

Please accept my sincere sympathy to all of you for your loss. RIP

Mrs. Fitzpatrick and family, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Mr. Fitzpatrick (aka Coach Fitzy to me). I have so many amazing childhood memories from the football fields to family/team meals at Fitzy's to a couple drinks and Patriots and golf fun once I was 21. He pushed us hard as a coach but always treated us like family and definitely made us better on and off the field. He genuinely cared for all of us and we knew it. I'm pretty sure he gave us a million quarters for the arcade and countless post game pizzas! I can only imagine how much fun he was having as a grandfather. I'm sure I never thanked him enough, but I'll always be grateful for how he enriched my childhood. Many thoughts and prayers to all of you.
