GENE PIGGOTT
WOOD RIVER — Gene E. Piggott, 81, passed away at 1:26 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2014, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born in Wood River on June 19, 1932, he was the son of Charles S. and Pearl (Penning) Piggott.
A Korean War army veteran, he was in the glass business in Wood River from 1955-62, then worked as a machinist for Boeing 33 years until he retired in 1995.
Gene enjoyed spending time with family and doing home projects at both his home and that of his family. He loved to swim and travel.
On March 11, 1955, in Alton, he married the former Janette Brown. She survives.
Surviving also are a son, Michel (Mary) Piggott of Bethalto; daughter, Barbara (Michael) Krabbe of East Alton; eight grandchildren, Kimberly (Jim) Wilkinson, Stacy (Kirk) Prather, Kelle Brown, Adam Piggott, Erik Piggott, Jeffrey Krabbe, Randy Krabbe, Eddie Vatole; four great-grandchildren, Jerra and William Brown, Jacob and Savannah Wilkinson; seven stepgreat-grandchildren, Noah and Dakota Prather, David, Rickey, Alex and Kayla Wilkinson, A.J. Vatole; sister, Charlotte (George) Goforth of Godfrey, brother-in-law, Paul Goforth; sister-in-law, Judith Goforth of New Haven, Ill.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, David Edwin Piggott; brother, Robert Piggott; sister, Ruth Ellen and husband, Richard Homer Mathus; and stepmother, Gladys Piggott.
In accordance with his wishes, his body was cremated.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
Interment will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto at a later date.

Mrs. Piggott I am so sorry for your loss. Roger and I live next door to you at 198 Ash. At this time we are in Mission, TX. We will be home the 16th of March. Any thing we can help you with please let us know. Again we are so sorry for your loss.

I considered Gene my own Grandpa as well. One of the nicest men I have ever known. He helped me with many projects over the years and was always willing to help. Thank you Gene for all the great memories. You will truly be missed. To the Piggott Family: Words can't express how sad I know you must be. He was such a great Man. I know he will be missed greatly. I send my thoughts and prayers.
