Joey Kester "Joe" Harpole

EAST ALTON — Joey Kester "Joe" Harpole, 63, passed away at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Christian Hospital-Northeast.

Born in Wood River in 1953, he was the son of Kester W. and Irene L. (Eilers) Harpole.

A U.S. Army veteran, he was a computer programmer for I.B.M. for 20 years before retiring in 2014. He enjoyed his family and friends and spending time in the outdoors.

Surviving are two daughters, Jennifer Owens of Fenton, Missouri, Jessica Craft of Springfield, Illinois; six grandchildren, Kaleb and Alicia Pille, Lena, Lyle, Ryea and Nyki Greeling; sister, Janet Blair of Wood River; nieces and nephews, Thomas Haber, Barbara Fidler, Elizabeth McDaniel, Carey Abney, Robert E. Blair; and loving companion Deb Ogle of East Alton and her son, Andy Ogle.

His parents and a sister, Margaret Ann Haber preceded in death.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 10 at St. John United Church of Christ in Wood River. Rev. Michael Southcombe will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Program.
