ALTON — Marion Cecilia Patterson, age 92, of Alton, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 8, 2021.
The eldest of seven children, she was born Jan. 15, 1929 in Alton to Kenneth C. & Juanita B. Banks.
On April 7, 1947, she married Charlie Patterson. They shared 54 years of marriage together before his passing in 2001.
As a young woman, Marion took an interest in sewing and eventually became an accomplished seamstress, crafting timeless garments for herself and those she cared for.
She loved to stay busy and excelled in needlework, oil-painting, origami, bowling, cooking, and gardening.
She loved to travel and was an avid reader.
Marion worked in home care for many years and subsequently worked as a seamstress at Frew's Bridal during her retirement.
She attended St. Mary's Church in Alton, Illinois.
Marion was proud of her family and enjoyed sharing in their achievements.
She loved to laugh and listen to jazz music.
In addition to her parents and husband; she was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Charlesetta M. Anthony; and a granddaughter, TaShina L. Patterson.
Also preceding her in death are two brothers, Roland (Phyllis) Banks, and William (Anita) Banks; and two sisters, Melva Jean (Leroy) Johnson, and Joyce M. Crawford.
She is survived by a son, Charles D. (Gracie) Patterson of Alton; a daughter, Teresa C. (James) Roland-Howard of Alton; two sisters, Frances (John) Howard and Mary E. Hearn, both of Texas; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
Marion touched the lives of many family members and friends throughout her life, and she will be very dearly missed.
She wished that her family forego a formal memorial service at this time.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift can be made to the charity of your choice.
"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
