WOOD RIVER - Betty Lou Wiegand, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, September 6, 2016, surrounded by family, following a lengthy illness.

Betty was born on December 9, 1931 in Leadington, Missouri, the daughter of Louis Henry and Lou Ellen (Kane) Evans. She was one of fifteen children, three of whom survive; Wanda Holmes and Donna Kite both of South Roxana, and Joseph Evans of Kansas City, Missouri.

On February 14, 1952 in Leadington, she married Oscar Arnold "Ozzie" Wiegand, and from that time on, her life was devoted to her husband and their family, including their children, Steven and Cathy Wiegand of Wood River, Larry and Donna Wiegand of Granite City, Donita and David Crockett of Fosterburg, David Wiegand of O'Fallon, Missouri, and Dustin and Kim Wiegand of Wood River. Although Betty and Ozzie had only five children, they always said that in-laws became their children the moment they married into the family.

From the original five children and their spouses, Betty and Ozzie's family has grown to include 24 grandchildren, Brad and Kristy, Joe and Michele, Nick and Tamra, Tyson and Emily, Larry, Jr. and Kathleen, Savana, Brior, Abby, and Katie Wiegand; Gretchen and Lance Critchley, Nathan and Sarah and Jeremy Crockett; Destini and Luke Lednicky, Kyle MacKaben, and Cee Cee and Dylan Jackson; 19 great-grandchildren, Tatlor, Morgan, Emma, Aubrey, Piper, Dalton, Hannah, Mary and Patrick Wiegand; Ellie and "Baby" Critchley, Madison, Sylvia and Oscar Crockett; Lucy, Adam, Camryn Lednicky; Hunter and Maebri Jackson.

The family mourns the loss of their mother and grandmother, but takes great comfort in the legacy of Love that she and Ozzie have left behind. "With the blossom of love, a family was created" and their family continues to grow.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at 12 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Pastor Michael Southcombe will officiate.

Betty will be laid to rest in Wanda Cemetery, beside her beloved husband, Ozzie in a private service.
