Matthew Brigido Obituary

Matthew "Red" Brigido, 96, of Scranton and formerly of Old Forge, died Tuesday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. His wife, Ann DeMarco Brigido, preceded him in death on June 29, 2017.

Born in Old Forge to the late Vito and Sarah Taroli Brigido, he was a graduate of Old Forge High School, where he excelled in football. He then served his country honorably in the United States Navy during both World War II and the Korean War as an MP primarily aboard the USS Freemont.

Matthew was employed first by Capitol Records, and later Krayer Security. He then retired from Gold Star Co., Scranton. He was a parishioner of Christ the King Church, Dunmore, before its closure and currently of Immaculate Conception Church, Scranton.

Matt loved to cook and share his creations with everyone. His Italian sauce and tripe were specialties that he enjoyed to watch others indulge in. He was also an accomplished artist and was talented at creating portraits of others.

Surviving are his daughter, Sarah Brigido, Scranton; grandchildren, Jason Romano, Shannon Duffy; and Jake Stevens and wife, Stacy; two great-grandchildren, Isabella Romano and Owen Stevens; and a sister, Patty Brigido, of Pittston.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Florence Duffy; brothers, Ralph and Charles Brigido; and sisters, Dolores Manganaro and Nancy Matz.

The funeral will be private at the convenience of the family with Mass in St. Mary's Church (Prince of Peace Parish), Old Forge. Interment with military honors, Old Forge Cemetery.
