Joseph Fortuner Obituary

Joseph T. Fortuner Jr. of Mayfield died Friday morning at home after an illness. His wife, the former Victoria Ella Kubus, died Jan. 14, 2005.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Joseph and Anna Eibes Fortuner, he was of the Catholic faith. He worked with his father in the family moving business since the age of 13. Before retirement, he was a truck driver for Roadway Trucking, Tannersville. He was a social member at several area American Legion posts. He was an avid NASCAR fan, loved waterskiing, hunting and fishing, and he enjoyed woodworking and shooting pool. He was a loving husband to his wife, Vicki. He was a great father and grandfather to his seven children and his 20 grandchildren, and one couldn't ask for a better person in our lives. We will miss him dearly.

Surviving are seven children, Joseph Fortuner III, Roseanna Knick and Donna Fortuner, all of Carbondale; Linda Opiel, Mayfield; Gloria Cordner, Pleasant Mount; Robert Fortuner, Kutztown; and Gary Fortuner, Forest City; 20 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Albert Fortuner, Carbondale; and Michael Fortuner, Vandling; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Brown and JoAnn Fortuner; and a brother, Thomas.

A blessing service will held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the Brennan and Brennan Funeral Home Inc., 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Friends may call Sunday, 3 to 6 p.m.

Uncle Joe was the best. He truly was our friend as well as family. He is alive as long as he is remembered in our hearts and we will long be saying " remember the joke Uncle Joe told...?, or "remember the time Uncle Joe was hunting at so-and so's place...? and laugh like the old times. When the kids were little he always had candy bars or apples for them when he came. They'd yell "Uncle Joe's here!!!!" and run to his truck with hugs all round.
I can't be at the wake to say goodbye due to health issues, but my heart goes out to you all, cause we will miss Jo-Jo terribly. I'm crying as I type this now. Our love, hugs and prayers go with you.
