John C. Bichler Obituary

John C. Bichler, 78, a lifelong Taylor resident, died Tuesday evening at his home surrounded by those who loved him most. His devoted wife, Ann Hunter Stover Bichler, survives. The couple recently celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary on Sept. 15.

Born in Buffalo, N.Y., son of the late Charles and Leona Smith Bichler, he was a graduate of Taylor High School. John also graduated from both Johnson Trade School in 1961 with a degree in drafting and building and Penn State in 1964 with a degree in construction engineering.

John initially worked with his father in Bichler Construction. He subsequently continued in business on his own as a construction contractor for more than 50 years with his son. He also operated his own tractor-trailer trucking company and owned a landfill for demolition materials. John developed ponds and built an average of eight homes and two commercial buildings per year. He was known by so many for also being an excavator for 13 area cemeteries, a charge that he took very seriously.

He was a member of St. Paul's Independent Bible Church, Taylor, where he served as the church council president. He was also a member of the Taylor Acacia Lodge #579 F & AM and the Taylor Swiss Lodge.

A man with a noticeable and astounding work ethic, he was always concerned about the work he performed, even following his recent brief illness. If you treated him with respect, you quickly had a friend for life. A true man of God, he understood the fragility of life and the reality of death. He will be missed by many.

Also surviving are a son, Brian Stover, of Taylor; an aunt, Mary Swinchowski, of Torrington, Conn.; and several cousins.

The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Independent Bible Church, 401 W. Grove St., Taylor, with services by the Rev. Norm Demming, pastor. Interment services will follow in Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp.

Relatives and friends are invited to John's viewing on Friday in St. Paul's Church from 4 to 8 p.m. Masonic services will be held at 7. Social distancing and mask wearing will be required.
