Bruce J. Owens, Nicholson, died Sunday at the Allied Hospice Center. His wife of 63 years is the former Marilyn Schadt.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late William and Beatrice Thomas Owens. Educated in Scranton schools, he proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Before retirement, he worked for Techniglas, and after retirement he worked at Sam's Club as a greeter. Bruce was an avid sports fan and rooted for the Boston Red Sox and the San Francisco 49ers.

Bruce's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Dr. Mark Lyons, Advanced Home Health Care Specialists, and to the nurses and staff at the Allied Hospice Center for all of their kind and compassionate care.

Also surviving are daughters, Debra Coulon and husband, Michael, Scranton; and Susan Lasota and husband, Julian, Hamlin; sons, Gary Owens and wife, Linda; and Brian Owens and wife, Ellen, all of Scranton; grandchildren, Timothy Lasota and wife, Jessica; Daniel Lasota and wife, Deepa; and Benjamin Lasota, Joshua Owens, Tara Jordan and Andrew Owens; stepgrandchildren, Benjamin Coulon and Shane Gerrity; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Laurie Owens; brothers, Robert and William Owens; and sister, Janice Osborne.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 6 p.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., Scranton, with the Rev. Kenneth Claflin, pastor of the Hamlin Assembly of God as officiant. Inurnment with military honors in Dunmore Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family.
