Mary Kay Nowakowski-Carpenetti, 57, of Nicholson, died Saturday surrounded by family at her daughter's home.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Eleanor Davis Powell. She was a graduate of West Scranton High School and Career Technology Center with a degree in nursing. She was a longtime employee of Mountain View Care Center and Mercy Hospital.

She is survived by husband, David Carpenetti, and her three children, Edward Nowakowski and wife, Sophia, of Jacksonville, Fla.; Sara Nowakowski and fiancé, Jeff McKnight, of Olyphant, Pa.; and Marisa Highlands and husband, John, of East Greenville, Pa.; one granddaughter, Grace Kay Highlands; a brother, Jack Powell and wife, Cathy, of Scranton; three stepchildren, Ashley, Matt and Amber Carpenetti; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Kay lived her life to the fullest and was never afraid to say what was on her mind. She grew up on the waters of Lake Sheridan with Tomiko Prichard, skiing, swimming and fishing. She loved to play pool and taught all her children how to play. She often rode her motorcycle on long weekend getaways. She just knew how to surround herself with friends and family and have a good time.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5 until the time of service.
