William J. Jones, 72, of Blakely, died Friday at Regional Hospital of Scranton.

The son of the late Maldwyn and Mary Ann Jones, Bill was a parishioner at St. Michael the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church in Dunmore.

He was a 1963 graduate of Blakely High School where he played football, basketball and baseball. He continued his education at Penn State Worthington Scranton, where he also played basketball.

An Army veteran, Bill had a 50-year career in drafting and engineering, working for Link Aviation, Hughes Aircraft and Raytheon. He was especially proud of being part of the team that worked on the B-1 Stealth Bomber. He spent the last 15 years of his career at Pleasant Mount Welding.

Bill was an avid basketball fan, following the Kentucky Wildcats. He also enjoyed annual wine trips with his daughter, classic car shows and cooking, but his greatest joys were the time spent with his family and his walks with his chocolate Lab, Caddy.

He is survived by his son, William Jones Jr. and partner, Michael Gutch, Sioux Falls, S.D.; his daughter, Jennifer Dunda and husband, Joseph Dunda, Roaring Brook Twp.; grandchildren, Larisa, Nicolas, Benjamin and Joseph Dunda. He is also survived by a brother, Mal Jones and wife, Carol, of Dickson City.

Bill was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Michele Gaul, who predeceased him in 2012.
