Thomas A. Ruane, 79, from Vestal, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, Nov. 4, after a brief illness.

Tom is survived by Audrey Kalb, his best friend and life partner; his daughter, Kristen Donnelly (Thomas), of Binghamton; his son, Thomas A. Ruane Jr., of Raleigh, N.C.; and his precious grandchildren, Thomas, Maeve and Mara Donnelly, Trey and Brady Ruane, who were the light of his life. Tom is also survived by his six siblings and many nieces and nephews.

Tom was predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Mary Ruane, from Dunmore, Pa.; and the mother of his children, Barbara Ruane Rando.

Tom was well known as the general manager of IBM Endicott, and he had many other executive positions with IBM throughout his 31 career. He was drafted into the United States Army and was a 1961 graduate of Penn State University. Tom loved his community and was an active board member of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Louis N. Picciano Boys and Girls Club, Innovation Associates and Rainbow Displays, among other community involvements. Tom was the best father, grandfather, brother, uncle and partner the world has known. He was stubborn, opinionated, generous and utterly devoted and made the very best mashed potatoes. He was Irish to a fault. He attended every sporting event that his grandchildren were involved in, from basketball tournaments to horse shows, driving anywhere at all hours to do so. His passing leaves a void that will not easily be filled. The family wishes to thank all the health care facilities that assisted in Tom's care during his illness.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Oak and Leroy streets. Burial will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton, Pa.

The family will receive friends at the Leon Pucedo Funeral Home Inc., 1905 Watson Blvd., Endicott, Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Tom may be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 N. McKinley Ave., Endicott, NY 13760.
