Eugene W. Murphy, 64, Jermyn, died Wednesday at home after an illness.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Thomas and Margaret Adams Murphy, he was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. Before retirement, he was employed as a material handler for Simona Laminations, Archbald. He was a member of the American Legion Post 328, Archbald.

He enjoyed Randy Travis and was an avid New York Yankees and San Francisco 49ers fan. Eugene was a stubborn Irishman with a heart of gold.

Surviving are three daughters, Elizabeth Murphy and Sarah Durst, both of Jessup; Margaret Murphy, Jermyn; three sons, Eugene Murphy, Archbald, Garrett Murphy and James Durst, both of Carbondale; 13 grandchildren; a sister, Kathy Teeple, Carbondale; a brother, Thomas Murphy, New Jersey; his former wife and caregiver, Deborah Murphy, Archbald; his ex-wife, Christina Murphy, Simpson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Charles.

The funeral will be Monday in the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home Inc., 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale, with services at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Jack Munley. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Archbald.

Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.
