Daniel J. Chesik

  • "With deep sadness I see Dan's passing. He was a great..."
    - Richard & Sharon Alt

Daniel J. Chesik, 78, Moscow, passed away peacefully in his home Dec. 6. His wife was the late Isabella E. Chesik, who passed away in 2013.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Iwaszko) Chesik. Dan was a veteran of the United States Army stationed in Germany and was a member of the American Legion. In his early years, he was an electrician, carpenter and mechanic, and he retired from the Tobyhanna Army Depot as a communications technician. While at the depot, Dan earned the nickname "Dan You Gotta Eat Chesik" from his co-workers, for always having a snack at his work station.

Dan was an intelligent, honorable and hardworking man. He enjoyed gardening, playing his guitar and singing, and he loved history. He was very social and was the owner of Chesik's Elmwood Inn, Elmhurst, an establishment that has been in his family for over 60 years. Everyone that knew Dan loved him, and he will be missed dearly by all. Dan loved his family very much. He loved traveling to Florida during the winter and, on occasion, out west to reunite with his longtime Army buddies, and he also made a very special trip to Hawaii in 2016 to see his daughter get married.

Surviving are his two children, daughter Danielle Dean and husband, Nolan, of Penn Laird, Va.; his son, Daniel Chesik and companion, Mia Coviello, of Elmhurst, Pa.; stepdaughters, Susan Cox, of Bensalem, Pa., and Connie Seagraves and husband, Tim, of Madison Twp., Pa.; stepson, Max Metschulat, of Norristown, Pa.; two stepgranddaughters, Michelle Dolt and husband, Sean, of Bensalem; Jessica Kakareka and husband, Chad, of Chatsworth, Calif.; two stepgrandsons, TJ Seagraves, of Portland, Ore., and wife, Sam; Michael Seagraves, of Manayunk, Pa.; stepgreat-grandson, Jamie; and a sister, Florence Coleman and her husband, Joe, of Scranton; a sister, Carol, of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by five siblings, Joe, Bob, Eleanor, Evelyn and Donnie.
