Laura J. Solfanelli passed away on Jan. 9, 2019, surrounded by friends and family.

Laura was the daughter of the late Joseph Robert and Helen Morano Solfanelli. Born on July 12, 1942, in Scranton, Pa., Laura graduated from Marywood College in 1964 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and earned her master's in education from the University of Scranton. Laura dedicated her life to educating and supporting children. Laura was a teacher in the Scranton School District for 35 years, teaching third and fourth grades at John Adams School for most of her career. She was very active in the Scranton Federation of Teachers Union and was well-known for her kindness and generosity toward the underprivileged students in the community.

Laura was deeply devoted to her adored pets and found great joy in celebrating the holidays, especially during the many years that she hosted the Solfanelli family Christmas Dinners. Laura's intelligence was apparent from, not only her excellent teaching skills, but also her interest in a wide diversity of reading material. She was a voracious reader, devouring historical biographies, novels, newspapers and magazines.

Laura was also predeceased by her brother, Joseph Robert Jr.

"Aunt Laurie" is survived by her two nephews, David Joseph Solfanelli and his wife, Kristen; and Robert Joseph Solfanelli; and her niece, Sara Elena Solfanelli and her husband, Aidan Sullivan; her great-nephews, Joseph David and Robert Dominic; and her great-niece, Genevieve Ann Solfanelli; her many beloved cousins in the Solfanelli and Morano families, especially Jerry Solfanelli and his wife, Tina; and her dear friend, Juliette Saadi.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Church, 1510 Penn Ave.

Friends and family may pay their respects Saturday morning in the church from 9 a.m. until Mass time. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery.
