David A. Purvis, 70, Carbondale, died Wednesday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. His wife is the former Rosemary Trichilo.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late William George and Marjorie Enslin Purvis Jr., he was raised by his maternal grandparents, Norman and Ruby Enslin. David was a United States Marine who served during the Vietnam Conflict. He earned two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star.

The family extends its deepest gratitude to Hospice of the Sacred Heart staff for their compassionate care.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Bryan Purvis and wife, Jennifer, Fell Twp.; David Purvis, Carbondale; two daughters, Kelly Purvis and significant other, Jeremy Snyder, Carbondale; Krista Purvis and wife, Lisa Ross, Carbondale; seven grandchildren, Dominick and Jonathon Purvis, Kevin and Anna Bebla, Krisa Mancuso, Tyler Purvis and Jason Bibalo; three great-grandchildren, Noah Brennan, Emma Brennan and Mila Bibalo; two brothers, Richard Burnham, Dickson City; Bill Lee, Greenfield Twp.; five sisters, Mary Lou Karampilas, Scranton; Patricia Charney, Daleville; Brenda Purvis, Dunmore; Bonnie Lawrence, Maryland; Debbie Burnham-Valanda, Montdale; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by brothers, Daniel Purvis and Randy Burnham.

The funeral will be Monday from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale, with a blessing service at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Military honors will be held at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.
