Joseph P. Bartush, 71, of Pittston, passed into the arms of the Lord on Friday, Jan. 11, at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, where he was a resident since August of 2018.

Born in the Taylor Hospital on June 10, 1947, he was the son of the late John J. Sr. and Anna (Mascubrzuch) Bartush.

Joe was educated in the Avoca schools and graduated from Northeast High School, class of 1965. He then went on to graduate from the IBM Business School, Scranton, before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1966. He served during the Vietnam War in Phan Rang, Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1970. He then went on to work for Tobyhanna Army Depot for 30 years before his retirement in 2000.

He was a proud member of Holy Mother of Sorrows Church, Dupont, American Legion 585, Duryea and VFW 4909, Dupont.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sharon D. Warrick Bartush (2004); brother, John Jr.; infant sister, Patricia Ann; and brothers-in-law, Paul and Robert Warrick.

Surviving are his two sisters and caregivers, Mary Ann Ruane and Barbara Ann Vitale, both of Pittston. Also surviving are two nieces, three nephews, two great-nieces, five great-nephews, one great-great-nephew; and his dogs, Beanie and Bella.

Funeral services are in the care of Graziano Funeral Home Inc., Pittston Twp., PA 18640.

Viewing hours will be held at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from Holy Mother of Sorrows PNCC, Dupont. Those who plan on attending are asked to go directly to the church the morning of the funeral.

Interment services with military honors by both the AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston as well as Active Duty Air Force Honor Guard will follow in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Spring Street, Moosic, Pa., where Joe will be laid to rest with his wife.
