Constance Johnson "Connie" Thurman Obituary

Constance "Connie" Johnson Thurman, 76, of Scranton, died Thursday at the Green Ridge Care Center.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Roland Johnson Sr. and the late Lovie Pruitt Johnson McIver, she attended Scranton public schools and was an active member in the community of Bethel A.M.E. Church. Before retirement, she had been employed as a daycare teacher at the Progressive School and McKinney Products in Scranton. She was the past president of the African American Heritage Association and was a volunteer at the voting polls. Bingo was a big hobby of hers, and always enjoyed participating in games. She loved being surrounded by family at gatherings, especially at the holidays, and was able to laugh and spread joy in any situation.

Connie was so much to so many people, and will be deeply missed by all whose life she touched.

Surviving are her children, Crystal Archie and husband, George; Charles Ivey; Mark Johnson and wife, Joann; Emanuel Johnson and fiancée, Aimee Thomas; and Ivey Johnson and companion, Michele Hudson, all of Scranton; her siblings, Marlene G. Edwards; Roland Johnson Jr. and wife, Patti; Herman Johnson and wife, Chris; Sandra Johnson Spencer and husband, Larry; Dorothy Cameron, Letitia McIver, Lawrence McIver; and Norman McIver and wife, Donna; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

In addition to her parents, Connie was preceded in death by her niece, Tanya I. Edwards; and brother, James Earl Johnson.

Memorial services will be posted at a later date.
