Kenneth C. Kester Obituary

Kenneth C. Kester, age 77, a lifelong resident of Scranton, passed away of natural causes on June 29.

Ken was born on July 22, 1942, to Clarence and Henrietta Batt Kester in Scranton, Pennsylvania. After graduating from West Scranton High School, he went on to serve in the United States Navy and worked for many years at the Third National Bank. He married Juliann Brazen Kester in 1968 and together they raised two children, Jill and Kris.

Ken was an avid sports lover. He was often known to watch one game on the television while listening to another on the radio (and completing a crossword puzzle). He spent more than 50 years in the bowling community, and in his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with lifelong friends at South Side Bowl. He also enjoyed travelling and spoiling his dog, Molly, who he referred to as his salvation.

Ken was preceded in death by his father, Clarence; and his mother, Henrietta. He is survived by wife, Juliann; his children, Jill and Doug Haladay, of Tampa, Fla.; and Kris and Christina Kester, of Scranton, Pa.; his sister, Nancy Pitely; three grandchildren, Gavin and Ella Kester, and Matylda Haladay; several nieces and nephews; Darlene Harris and their dog, Molly; and many dear friends. Ken will be fondly remembered as a loving father, grandfather and friend to everyone.

Friends and family may pay their respects Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Attendees for the visitations are kindly asked to adhere to the CDC social distancing guidelines and a mask will be required.
