Celia Paolucci Mellini Obituary

Celia Paolucci Mellini, 87, a resident of Lackawanna Health and Rehab, formerly of Jessup, died Monday at the center of natural causes. She was the widow of Primo Mellini, who died Jan. 17, 1972.

Born and raised in Jessup, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Josephine Guida Paolucci.

She was a graduate of Jessup High School, class of 1950.

She was employed at Doma Importing in Jessup and did whatever job had to be done from cashier to sales. Celia was a perfectionist and a fabulous baker who volunteered to bake for all family special occasions. She was a devout Catholic and a strong-willed woman who made her own decisions and prayed for everyone. She was a member of St. Mary's Assumption Church, now known as Queen of Angels Parish. She was a very respected resident of Jessup who always placed her family first and foremost in her life.

Celia was a loving and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin and friend. As a young widow who faced her trials and tribulations in life with prayers to God and St. Anthony, she never lost her faith especially after the loss of her only son, Michael, in 1994. She was so proud of him and all his achievements. She was beaming with joy when he was recognized and honored posthumously for his work at the Cancer Institute in Maryland.

She is survived by a granddaughter, Alyssa Liverette and husband, Daniel, West Virginia; a great-grandson, Domenick Liverette; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, one of whom was her caregiver, Jeanette Acciare-Mariani, Peckville.

She was also preceded in death by her beloved and only son, Michael Mellini, Ph.D.; her mother-in-law, (also) Celia Mellini; a sister, Madeline Paolucci; cousin and friend, Phyllis Reidenbach; sisters-in-law, Rena Labosky and Jean Rosetti; and brother-in-law, Larry Rosetti.

The funeral will be held Thursday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville. Interment, St. John's Cemetery, Jessup. Friends may call one hour before Mass at the Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home, 511 Church St., Jessup. All CDC guidelines will be followed and masks are required.
