Arleen B. Vancosky Obituary

Arleen B. Vancosky, 85, of Scranton, died Tuesday at Allied Skilled Nursing under the care of Allied Hospice. She was the widow of Gerald R. Vancosky, who died April 29, 2006.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Francis and Gertrude Janeczek Wasko, she was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Church and a 1952 graduate of West Scranton High School.

Upon graduation, Arleen was a medical secretary for the late Dr. Klien of Scranton. For many years she worked in various local fashion retail establishments. Arleen's favorite job after retirement was handing out samples at Sam's Club, Scranton. Arleen was very involved with her family and had a very active role in all of her grandchildren's activities. She would never miss a game or a play her grandchildren were in because they were the light of her life.

Arleen was extremely social and stayed very close to her high school girlfriends and participated in monthly events with the "Lady Bug" group. While a resident of Allied Service Skilled Nursing, Arleen never missed a social event or entertainer.

Surviving are two daughters, Karen V. Evans, Scranton, and son-in-law, Robert, Clarks Summit; and Kristin A. Fick and husband, Barry M., Moosic; four grandchildren, Vanessa L., Dunmore; and Robert J. Evans, Dunmore; Barry M. II and Jeremy K. Fick, Moosic; and her beloved grand puppies, Penelope and Pokey; and three great-grand kittens and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Delores Proctor, of Clarke, N.J.; and Lorraine Mozdzien, of Old Forge.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in SS. Peter & Paul Church, Scranton. Interment, Parish Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home, 1240 St. Ann St., Scranton, from 9 to 10:45 a.m.
