Diana J. Powell Obituary

Diana J. Powell, Moosic, died Thursday at Geisinger Community Medical Center. Her husband of 59 years is Gary T. Powell.

Born in Taylor on July 16, 1940, daughter of the late Eugene L. and Isabel Knecht Chapman, she had been a resident of Moosic most of her life.

After graduating from Moosic High School, she attended the American Institute of Banking and began her banking career working for the Third National Bank of Scranton.

She left banking to be a wonderful and loving mother and wife. She always took great pride in being involved with her family and her happiest times were those spent with them. As her family grew independent, she returned to banking at the Avoca Bank, which then became Northeastern Bank and PNC, where she retired from in 1998.

A member of Elm Park United Methodist Church in Scranton, she served on many committees and coordinated flower delivery to shut-ins each Easter and Christmas. She was also a member of the Wyoming Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She was a gentle woman who truly loved her family. She loved her flower garden, and had an array of bird feeders that attracted a wide variety of birds that she enjoyed watching out her window.

She loved her holidays with her family, especially Christmas. She had a smile for everyone, and never held a grudge or had harsh words to say about anyone.

Also surviving are two sons, Gregory T. Powell and wife, Patricia, of Scranton; and Douglas E. Powell of Moosic; and a stepgranddaughter, Jessica J. Jezerski, South Abington Twp.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Marian K. Chapman Hurrey; and a brother, Ronald Chapman.

She wanted the memory of her to be a happy one. I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly of happy and laughing times, and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

A celebration of Diana's life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Elm Park United Methodist Church, 712 Linden St., Scranton, PA 18501; Ronald McDonald House or Make a Wish Foundation.

Arrangements by Jacob Davis Funeral Home, 422 S. Main St., Taylor.
