Carole (Reed) Lee Obituary

Carole (Reed) Lee, age 74, a lifelong resident of Scranton, passed away Friday morning at Regional Hospital of Scranton, after an illness. She's now reunited with her beloved husband of 55 years, Francis Lee, who preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 2019.

Born on Dec. 4, 1945, and daughter of the late Eugene and Margaret (Meehan) Reed, Carole was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School. Upon raising her daughters she became a state certified nurse's aide. An amazingly hard worker throughout her life, she was still working for Caregivers of America until only several months ago. Her dedicated work ethic never wavered as she wanted to ensure her family never wanted for anything.

She was kind to a fault, giving, loving and, above all else, selfless to others. She loved shopping, enjoyed her RC Cola and adored her puppy, "Maggie." Her grandchildren and great-granddaughters were certainly the apples of her eye and she couldn't have been more proud of her daughters. She will never be forgotten.

Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a faithful member of Holy Rosary Church, Mary, Mother of God Parish in North Scranton.

She is survived by her loving family: daughters, Catherine Devereaux and husband, Robert; and Karen Miller and husband, Kevin, all of Scranton; four grandchildren, Shane Miller and wife, Kate, of Old Forge; Connor Miller and wife, Kasey; Austin Miller and Corrin Devereaux, all of Scranton; three great-granddaughters, Maeve, McKenzie and Rowyn; her sister, Joni "Desi" Calpin and husband, Walter, of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by siblings, an infant Kenneth, Francis, Gerard and Thomas Reed, Jean Marie Rogers and Margaret "Peggy" Gaffney.

Her family wishes to thank the amazing staff of Regional Hospital's 8-East for their extraordinary care throughout Carole's nearly three-week stay; and her longtime physician, Dr. Maryann McDonald.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., Scranton, with burial to follow at the Cathedral Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects at the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until Mass.

Those attending are asked to keep their outfit colorful and vibrant, just like Carole would have it.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carole's name to the NEPA Pet Fund & Rescue, c/o PO Box 3953, Scranton, PA 18505.

Arrangements are under the care of the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton. Please visit the funeral home's website for directions or to leave a condolence.
