Jeffrey Thomas Strader Obituary

Jeffrey Thomas Strader, age 65, of Scranton, passed away at home.

Born, June 18, 1955, in the City of Scranton, Jeff was the son of John Emerson Strader and Gwendlyn Jones Strader Douglas, who both preceded him in death. Jeff was most recently employed at Jacobson Hats in Scranton.

Jeff graduated from Scranton Technical High School, Class of '73, and enlisted in the United States Navy where he spent months at sea on a nuclear submarine. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, Jeff remained in Groton, Connecticut, married and started a family.

Jeff studied mechanical engineering at Penn State Scranton, and worked at the shipyard in Groton, Connecticut, for General Dynamics Electric Boat. Jeff will be fondly remembered by two Navy buddies, Sam and Ellis, who became lifelong friends.

Jeff relocated to Scranton in 2012 to help with the care of his aging mother, Gwen, and to reconnect with the community he fondly remembered from his childhood.

Jeff was also preceded in death by two brothers, John (Danette) and Weston (Vivian).

Surviving are two adult children, Elizabeth and Jeffrey Jr.; and a grandson, Gregory Strader (Elizabeth), Mystic, Connecticut; two sisters, Cathy Ann Hardaway (Alfred), Newton Twp., Pa.; and Patricia Dixon, Raleigh, N.C.; nieces and nephews, Weston Jr. (Billie) Smithfield, Va.; Gretchen, Norristown, Pa.; Allison, (Dennis) Raleigh, N.C.; Danielle, (George) Merchantville, N.J.; Jenae (Philadelphia, Pa.), Eric (Newton Twp., Pa.), Christen (Throop, Pa.) and Josiah (Columbia, Md.).

There will be no public memorial at this time.
