Elizabeth Ann Tomassetti Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Tomassetti, 91, of Covington Twp., passed away Thursday morning at Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit in Dunmore following an illness. Born Nov. 4, 1928, in Blakely, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Anna (Patskin) Budnovitch. Elizabeth was a 1954 graduate of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing.

As a registered nurse, Elizabeth served others using her intellect, drive and compassion in private duty care, advancing to positions of leadership, including supervising the Cardiac Care Unit at Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg, Pa. She worked in nearly every critical care unit of the various hospitals she served throughout her nursing career. In her later working years, Elizabeth added another dimension to a distinct professional career, working with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's certification of nursing homes.

Throughout her career as an RN and single mother of four, she became a trailblazer for many and grew ever more compassionate for the less privileged. Her steadfast loyalty, ability and dependability reflected both in her work, and in her unwavering dedication to her family. After her children had grown, she further embraced responsibility, becoming the caregiver for her mother, Anna Budnovitch, and Aunt Rose (Tuthill) in their waning years within the family home in Daleville. With the help of many kind contributors, including First Light Home Care, Elizabeth lived in the family home she surrounded with wildflowers until her passing.

As a musician, Elizabeth savored all forms of expression. As a lover of the arts and music with an insatiable love of learning and languages, she was reasonably fluent in five languages. At one point in her life, she found herself translating from French to Spanish and back for two strangers on a tour bus. She shared her intense intellectual curiosity with her children, and encouraged them to explore beyond the boundaries of their perceptions. She influenced those around her with her keen ability for empathy. Elizabeth's passion to protect those she loved creates a central part of her lasting legacy.

Surviving are her children, Lisa A. Tomassetti, of Olympia, Wash.; Anthony G. Tomassetti Jr. and wife, Margaret, of Plymouth Meeting, Pa.; Stephen R. Tomassetti and wife, Julie, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Gregory D. Tomassetti, of Enola, Pa.; her sister, Ellen Coe and husband, Gary, of Severn, Md.; her grandchildren, Danielle, Anthony, Raymond, Margaret, Nicholas and Alyson; two beautiful great-granddaughters, and beloved nieces and nephews. Her brother, Robert Budnovitch; and her sister, Marjorie Telesk, preceded Elizabeth in death.

Funeral services will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family. Interment and committal will be conducted at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp., Pa. Arrangements are entrusted to Duffy & Snowdon Funeral Home of Moscow, Pa.

The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in her honor to women's shelters, such as the Catherine McAuley Center in Scranton, or your local Salvation Army or Goodwill Industries branches.
