Albert A. Oakey Obituary

Albert A. "Al" Oakey, 77, of Greenfield Twp., formerly of Dickson City, passed away Friday afternoon at the Gino Merli Veterans Center in Scranton after an illness. His loving wife of 54 years is the former Antoinette "Toni" Polensek.

Born in Peckville, son of the late Albert and Victoria Gola Oakey, he was a graduate of Dickson City High School, and was a member of the former St. Thomas Catholic Church in Dickson City. He honorably served his country with the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1966, and was the recipient of the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the SO G-4 Citation and the 1963 Air Base Wing (4600ABWG) Citation. He was assigned to the 47th Communications Squadron, and worked in the Central Operations Command Center, Telephone & Telegraph Unit, and once rode on Air Force One with President John F. Kennedy. Earlier in his career, he was employed at Boeing Air Craft in Seattle, Wash., and more recently worked in retail management at Burlington Coat Factory in Eynon, prior to his retirement. He was a member of American Legion Post #665 in Dickson City and a member of Shopa Davey VFW Post 6082 in Peckville.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and the outdoors. He loved NASCAR and was an avid Jeff Gordon fan. He enjoyed going to the casino and playing "scratch-off" lottery tickets, and especially loved spending his time with his dog, "Bear." He loved his family unconditionally and would "go to the moon and back" for his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.

In addition to his wife, Toni, he is survived by two sons, Al Oakey Jr. of Dickson City and Jason Oakey and wife, Karen, and grandchildren, Isabella and Xander Oakey, all of Dickson City; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Ann Oakey Zielinski and Geri Oakey Policichio.

There are no calling hours. The funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by the John J. Turko & Sons Funeral Home, Dickson City.
