James J. Miegoc Obituary

Oct. 16, 2020, following a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family at Allied Hospice, the Lord welcomed James J. Miegoc to heaven with the words, "Well done Jim, you fought the good fight and finished the race."

Born July 26, 1951, in Scranton, Pa., the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Dever) Miegoc, he attended Girard College, Philadelphia, Pa., graduated Central High School in 1969, and attended Keystone Jr. College.

After employment in various positions in the propane fuel industry, he went on to obtain his certification as a nurse aide, a title he was most proud of. Jim was employed at the Gino Merli Veterans Center in Scranton and served as a private duty CNA for various families over several years.

His passion for baking his specialty dessert, cherry chocolate almond cheesecake, was second to none, as was his love for Carole King music. Jim was an avid New York Yankees fan and held an ardor for golf, especially watching the Masters.

Surviving are his sister, Mary Anne (Miegoc) Hlyniansky, Middletown, Del.; brother, Joseph J.J. Miegoc, Carbondale; sister, Angela (Edward) Carney, Lake Wales, Fla.; a niece, Mary Jo Miegoc; nephew, Joseph Miegoc; and a cousin, John M. Cuff (Janet), Herndon, Va. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Walter Hlyniansky.

Special mention to his great friends, Lisa Walters, Casey Walters, Gerry Simpson, Michele Barney and his dog, Kelly.

Mass of celebration will be held Wednesday, Oct. 28, 9:30 a.m. in St. Peter's Cathedral, Scranton. Due to COVID-19, attendance is limited to 70 visitors. Private interment at Cathedral Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held in July 2021.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Gino Merli Veterans Center, 401 Penn Ave., Scranton PA 18503, or the donor's favorite charity.

Care provided by Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., Dunmore.
