Phyllis R. Fidati Obituary

Phyllis R. Fidati, a resident of Lake Winola who grew up in Scranton, passed away on Thursday. She was the widow of David A. Fidati, who died Dec. 9, 2004, and the daughter of the late Frank and Ruth Simcox Ball.

The love of her life, Phyllis and Dave celebrated 51 years of marriage. They also worked side by side at the family business, Fidati Refuse Removal, for 35 years where she was president and office manager. They enjoyed traveling together and above all else cherished their family having everyone gather at their house at Lake Winola, especially during the holidays, with the highlight being Fidati Christmas.

She worked in Washington, D.C., for several years during the Korean War decrypting messages with a state-of-the-art cryptography machine. Phyllis also graduated from nursing school in 1967.

A lover of all things strawberry, she specialized in homemade strawberry pies, strawberry jam and strawberry cheesecake after picking strawberries at Pallmans farm.

She was a lifelong member of Providence Presbyterian Church where she served as treasurer for many years. Also a member of a local Canasta Club, she enjoyed sewing, baking and making the traditional family raviolis at Christmastime that she and David passed down to their grandchildren.

Surviving are two sons, David and wife, Kathryn; Brian and wife, Kathleen; a daughter, Karen; daughter-in-law, Tamra; nine grandchildren, Lindsay, Vanessa, David, Matthew, John, Emily, Kaitlyn, Laura and Robert; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephew.

She was preceded in death by a son, Keith; and a sister, Helen Beppler.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Gardens at Green Ridge for the excellent care they provided during her stay.

Family and friends may pay their respects Tuesday at the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 11 a.m., where a private family service will be conducted with the Rev. Dr. Murray Thompson, pastor of the Providence Presbyterian Church, as officiating clergy. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. All CDC guidelines will be in effect, face masks will be required, social distancing will be enforced, and please pay your respects to the family without physical contact, expect delays due to capacity limitations.
