Thomas J. Kelly Obituary

Thomas J. Kelly, 63, of Scranton, died Monday at his home after a lengthy illness. His wife is the former Kathy A. Schreiber.

Born March 26, 1957, in Scranton, son of the late William and Doris Davis Kelly, Tom was a United States Navy veteran and was of the Roman Catholic faith. Before his retirement, Tom was employed at the Tobyhanna Army Depot.

Tom was a free spirit. He loved the outdoors and would spend time hiking, biking, kayaking and he also loved to sail. Tom loved music and would go and see local bands and loved going to concerts.

He was truly a family man who loved spending time with them, especially his granddaughter. Tom lived his life on his own terms and touched many people throughout his lifetime with his kindness and generosity. He influenced many people and encouraged them to live life to the fullest. Tom was one in a million and will be missed by many. Tom and his wife celebrated 42 years of marriage this past September.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter, Lindy A. Rieder and husband, Barry, Scranton; son, Rory T. Kelly and fiancée, Dana, Olyphant; sister, Karen Burnside and husband, David, Scranton; and brother, William "Billy" Kelly, Moosic; granddaughter, Adalynn Kelly; uncle, Wayne Davis and wife, Maureen; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tom is also survived by his mother-in-law, Eleanor Schreiber; and his brother-in-law, David Schreiber and wife, Rosann; and sister-in-law, Diane Skrutski.

Tom was preceded in death by his brothers, Timothy and Jerome Kelly.

A private memorial blessing will be conducted in the Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home, 1810 Sanderson Ave., Scranton, with the Rev. Daniel Jones as officiating clergy.
