Carmella Zielinski Obituary

Carmella Zielinski, 89, of Old Forge, died Friday at the Mountain View Care Center. She was the widow of Frank Zielinski, who died Jan. 16, 2005.

She was born in Old Forge, daughter of the late Joseph and Angela Mary Casamassa DiGregorio, and was a graduate of the Old Forge High School and the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She worked for Moses Taylor Hospital in many capacities, including in the emergency room and as an evening shift supervisor.

She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish, Old Forge.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Holgash and husband, Nick, Old Forge; granddaughters, Taryn Montes and husband, Javier, New York City; and Kiersten Holgash-Martinez and husband, Rick, Florida; great-grandchildren, Danny, Dylan and Layla Martinez, who affectionately called her Grandma Carmella; sister-in-law, Peggy DiGregorio, Old Forge; multiple nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph and Lawrence DiGregorio, and sisters, Rose Marie Herbinski and Dorothy Kwiatkowski.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from the Palermo & Zawacki Funeral Home Inc., 409 N. Main St., Old Forge, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Mary's Church, Grace and Lawrence streets, Old Forge, to be celebrated by the Rev. August Ricciardi, pastor. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Austin Heights, Old Forge.

Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
