Helen Grace Hopkins Obituary

Helen Grace Hopkins was born in 1928 at the home of her parents, Harry W. and Avis D. Hopkins located at Hopkins Corner, Newton Twp., Lackawanna County, Pa., and died Monday at her home in Scranton.

After graduating from Newton-Ransom High School, she graduated from Scranton Business School. She later earned a BA in education from Marywood while working 19 years for the local Girl Scout Council. Other occupations included operating two bakery stores and auditing businesses in Northeast Pa. and New Jersey.

Providence Presbyterian Church was her second family. There she served as elder, deacon, teacher and treasurer. She helped with service projects, meals and knitted many prayer shawls.

At 91 she was still volunteering for her church and advising clients younger than herself at APPRISE.

Known to her family as Helene, she was predeceased by three sisters, Marian Cooley, Mildred Pretzer and Francis Babb; and two brothers, Robert, formerly of Newton Twp.; and Edward, formerly of Falls.

Helene is survived by three siblings, Roy A. Hopkins, of Gravel Pond; Bruce Hopkins, of Wyomissing; and Vera Ruth Warburton, of Tunkhannock.

A memorial service will be planned at Providence Presbyterian Church when conditions improve. Any donations may be sent to Providence Presbyterian Church at 1145 Providence Road, Scranton, PA 18508.
