Josephine Ann Orzel, 87, of West Scranton, passed away on Jan. 12, at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Josephine was born on Sept. 16, 1933, to the late Peter and Loretta Stasits in Scranton, where she lived her entire life. She married the late Walter Orzel in 1955, and they were married 59 years at the time of her beloved Walter's passing and were blessed with three children. Josephine worked as a seamstress in the local garment industry for many years before retiring to spend more time with her family. She was an avid gardener, and also enjoyed spending time at the West Scranton Senior Center and taking bus trips with her friends. She had a sharp sense of humor and a unique and infectious laugh. She cherished her faith and was a parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church.

She is survived by two sons, Mark P. Orzel and wife, Carolyn, Binghamton, N.Y.; and Brian P. Orzel and wife, Robyn, Vero Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Andrew Orzel and wife, Natasha, Easton; Sara Orzel, Easton; and Ian Orzel, Vero Beach, Fla.; one sister, Loretta Gerrity and husband, Thomas, Scranton; nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and her beloved husband, Walter (2014), she was also predeceased by one daughter, Cindy Orzel (2012); and three sisters, Geraldine Hafner, Maryanne Klebon and Pauline Kotchick.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Sam J. Ferretti, pastor, SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, 1309 W. Locust St., West Scranton, on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Livestreaming of the Mass will be available on the funeral home Facebook page. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, West Scranton.
