Edward H. Kiefer Obituary

Edward H. Kiefer, Scott Twp., passed away peacefully Friday morning, Jan. 15, at Geisinger, Scranton. He just recently celebrated his 86th birthday Aug. 7. He married his beloved wife, Patricia L. Galvin, who was born in Houtzdale, Pa., daughter of the late Norman and Katheryn Galvin. The couple had been married since April 4, 1959.

Born in Archbald, he was the son of the late Edward and Emma Otto Kiefer. Before his retirement, he was a successful salesman for Metropolitan Life Insurance, Pennsylvania Farmer Insurance Co., West Chemical, and Hunter Engineering. He was a graduate of Scranton Central High School, class of 1952. Following his graduation from high school, he was called to duty where he served in the United States Marine Corps. Edward, upon completing his service, attended Keystone College, graduating in 1958. He then went on to the University of Scranton, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1961.

Edward loved being a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 301, the Irem Temple Country Club, the Order of Eastern Star of Hot Bottom, the Eastern Travelers Bowling League, and was the past national counselor of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics. He was a proud supporter and member of the Lackawanna Historical Society and the Anthracite Heritage Museum and Historic Iron Furnaces.

Edward was the proud father of five sons, Matthew, Mark, Jeffrey, Paul and Edward II; and his grandchildren, Dr. Jesse Kiefer, Timothy Kiefer, Rebecca Kiefer Rucker, Daniel Kiefer, Alan Michael Kiefer, and Edward H. Kiefer III.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Kiefer, Raymond Kiefer, and by his loving son, Paul Eric Kiefer.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. from Trinity Lutheran Church, 205 W Grove St., Clarks Summit, PA 18411. Friends may call at the church from 9 until the time of the service. Interment with military honors will follow in Archbald Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Lackawanna Historical Society, or the Anthracite Heritage Museum and Historic Iron Furnaces.
