Frank B. Scalzo, 69, of Scranton, died Friday at Allied Services Hospice, Scranton. His wife is the former Phyllis Baldino. They were married March 3, 1998. Born Dec. 27, 1951, in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Basil F. and Carmella Scarpino Scalzo. Frank was a 1969 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and started his career as a carpet layer for Lustig's Furniture Store, Carbondale. He then owned and operated the store for numerous years before moving to Houston, Texas, where he also owned a carpet store. He drove truck and managed a carpet store in Philadelphia before retiring in 2007. Frank was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and enjoyed hunting and cooking. His greatest joy was his weekly card game with his four friends. He is survived by a son, Frank Scalzo and wife, Francine, Hamilton, Va.; two stepdaughters, Rechelle Waibel and husband, Mikel, Dalton; and Nicole Wells and husband, Michael, Scranton; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Erin, Julien, Jayde and Gavin; a sister, Bernadette Lepre and husband, Billy, Carbondale; a niece; a nephew and several cousins. He was preceded in death by an infant brother. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. from Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 89 Farview St., Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook St., Carbondale. Mass will be livestreamed on the funeral home Facebook page. Cremation will follow. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
