I believe this is the Simon Loveday I met in Tehran in late 1967 or early 1968 . If it is he gifted me a magnificent White Arabian Stallion named Ahu. He told me his family was returning to England and he was looking for a good owner to take good care of him. And I promised I would , and I did. And loved him every minute he was mine. I kept him at the same Stable , same stall , as long as I was in Tehran . When I left I gifted him to a wonderful young lady named Sally Horne that did the same. I had only met Simon that evening but found him friendly , welcoming and intelligent in conversation. My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to all who loved him. Sincerely Bill Smith now of Florida then of Tehran. The world needs more like him .

I remember Simon very well, in fact I was talking to my wife about him this evening when, thanks to the magic of the internet I discovered that he had died, long before his time.
I am almost 20 years older than Simon, and I was his tutor in his PGCE year at Nottingham, although I also came across him some years later when he was working for the Oxford Delegacy I was Chief Examiner in French at O Level for the AEB and at GCSE for the Southern Examining Group which was based at Oxford.
If Jessica, whose obituary of Simon I have just read, or Sheena would care to get in touch I would be delighted. I live in Chetenham, and my email address is [email protected].

What a remarkable man.I truly wished I had known more about Simon. Such rare souls only come to this forlorn and miserable planet to impart their goodness, their blessings and to express their pure humanity. The world desperately needs more people like Simon to make us feel more loving, kind and human. It is indeed a sad indictment that many of us have become so sub- human and totally devoid of any loving feelings. Simon's book is teaching me the art of living again in a more humane and dignified way. May his soul rest in peace.David
