Harvey Strauss

Harvey A. Strauss

Palm Desert, CA

Harvey A. Strauss, 78, of Palm Desert, California peacefully went home to his Lord and Savior, Thursday, December 26, 2013. He was born in Port Huron, Michigan on December 7, 1935 to the late Ernest and Marie Strauss. He graduated from Port Huron High School. After high school Harvey attended college at Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music and Michigan State University. At age 23, he roller-skated into Dawn Collingwood's life. They married in February 1959, and shared 54 beautiful years together. For many years Harvey proved himself to be an avid business professional. Leading people was one of Harvey's best skills; he worked for True Value Hardware for many years. In 1980, Harvey and Dawn were drawn to their larger purpose, as missionaries for SEND International. Real leaders have a servant's heart; this is where Harvey found his true joy. He was an encouragement and inspiration to many. All leaders have setbacks, and Harvey's came in October 1996, surviving a major stroke. In the toughest of times and for the next 17 years he let God help him. Harvey enjoyed singing with The Sun City Singers, his train club, Bible study and having coffee with his buddies at Starbucks. He and Dawn have been long time members of Southwest Community Church in Palm Desert, CA.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Dawn; children, Scott (Sarah) Strauss of Michigan and Kimberly (Michael) Anderson of Minnesota; sister, Sally (Wayne) Darling; grandchildren, Maria (Ryan) Dierkhising of Minnesota, Dustin (Nicole) Anderson of Texas, Benjamin, Daniel and Phoebe Strauss; great-granddaughter, Lydia Dierkhising; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, May 10th, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Ross Bible Church, Port Huron, Michigan. Memorials may be sent to SEND International, P.O. Box 513, Farmington, MI 48332.
