East China

John Gordon Orchard, 84, of East China passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014 in his home. He was born January 26, 1930 in Detroit to the late Leslie and Claire Orchard.  He married Beatrice Rogers in Ohio in 1950. John was a fireman in St. Clair Shores for several years and worked for Roy O' Briens Ford Dealership as a mechanic for 42 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  John enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid sportsman.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Beatrice; a son, Mark (Jane) Orchard; two daughters, Cathy (Bill) Simons and Cindy (Craig) Portice; a daughter-in-law, Christine Orchard; nine grandchildren, John (Liz) Orchard, Jason (Cara) Orchard, Leslie (Alex) Orchard, Dan (Ella) Stephenson, Denise (Henry) Nolan, Ashlie (Matt) Smith, Amber Simons, Alex Portice, Michael Lumley Orchard; ten great grandchildren, Alina and Evan Orchard, Brooklyn and Holden Orchard, Becca, Emily, Jamey, and Jesse Stephenson, Bryanna and Naomi Nolan; three sisters, Virginia (Bill) Platte, Doris Armbruster, Maurine Lawrence; sister-in-law, Sally Rogers and brother-in-law, Elmer Kitchen and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was also preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Stephenson; a son, Michael; his father-in-law and mother-in-law; two sisters, Jackie and Helen; six sisters-in-law and eight brothers-in-law.

Cremation has taken place. Time for friends and family to share memories is being held from 12:00pm-3:00pm on Sunday, April 13th at the Voyageur Restaurant, 525 S. Riverside, St. Clair; lunch will be served at 1:00 pm. Memorials may be made to the Marine City Fire Department. Arrangements were made by Bower-Rose Funeral Home, Marine City.
