Arthur Payne Obituary
Port Huron - Arthur Wilford Payne, 82, of Port Huron, died Sunday, February 9, 2020.
He was born March 16, 1937 in Port Huron to the late Harry and Rosemary Marie Payne.
Arthur was a graduate of St. Stephen High School and St. Clair County Community College. He earned doctorate degrees from both the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. He owned and operated Seekers Show Bar for many years. He was a member of Moose Lodge # 158, Blue Water Aerie # 3702 Fraternal Order of Eagles, Port Huron Host Lions, was President of the Sons of American Legion Charles Hammond Post # 8, and founder of Toys for Kids of St. Clair County since 1993.
He is survived by a daughter, Brenda Payne; and two sons, Mark and Scott Payne.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2020 in St. Joseph Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. The Reverend Joseph Gagnon will officiate.
Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Port Huron Township.

I will always miss you art u were a great friend and a great guy u were one of a kind j will miss u calling me buddy fox every time u seen u say buddy fox I can't believe you are gone already u were the one that open seekers bar in Port Huron and u did not care if some one was gay or bisexual or anything else in your bar they were always welcome and no matter who they were you are always there to help everybody else that needed help you gave so many people chance or they needed a hug or a friend to talk to you are always there art I will always remember you my friend may you rest in peace I am so sorry I'm unable to be at the funeral but my thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends just know art was one of a kind he will always be missed r I p my friend love you art

Art was such an amazing person. He was always smiling or laughing when I saw him. I will cherish my memories with him whether it was at the bar, a Toys for Kids benefit or many Christmas Eves spent together. I will miss you, my friend! Condolences to his family at this time of sorrow.

First, my condolences to Art's family and his loved ones. I've known Art since I was a teenager as he was always at our house, even on holidays he would stop by. My mom and Art had a very special bond for more years than I can remember; breakfast date once a week and euchre many nights, including Sunday at Seekers. Art was a very kind, funny as heck, giving to a fault, kind of man. Had one of the biggest hearts I know and will truly be missed by many individuals and the community he resided in. Art, you gave it your all and fought hard. I'm glad I got to spend a few days with you in the end. Cupcake will be so happy to have you laughing by her side again. Rest in peace, Art. You truly will be missed.

I met Arthur the first night I went to the Bar new years eve that year. In his kindness to me only knowing him for a few hours he gratuitously drove me home. I was unable myself. He became a good friend over the many years I knew him. I will sadly miss him. God bless you art rest in piece
