Doris Hamilton Franklin
Funeral services for Doris Hamilton Franklin, age 78 of Olla, will be held at 2 PM Monday, December 31, 2012 from the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Olla with Rev. Johnnie Phillips and Bro. Scotty McDowell officiating. Interment will follow at Chickasaw Cemetery in Olla.
Visitation will be Sunday evening at First Baptist Church of Olla from 5 PM to 9 PM.
Mrs. Franklin was born on February 17, 1934 in Bellfast, Arkansas to the union of John F. and Rose Anna Wilson Hamilton and went to her Heavenly home on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Haven Nursing Center in Columbia.
She held several occupations including being a towerman for the LA Forestry Commission and drove the schoolbus for the Headstart School for 15 years. She enjoyed quilting and gardening, but was especially known for her peas. Mrs. Doris had a love for nature and her family. She was a loving, hardworking mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vanner James Franklin; son, Quincey Vanner Franklin; daughter, Linda Ann Mapp; grandsons: Jayson Scott Lowery, Carey Lee Franklin, Billy James Franklin, Jr.; granddaughters: Stormey Garrett and Amelia Mapp and several brothers: John Hamilton, William Hamilton, Richard Hamilton and Walter Hamilton.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Billy James Franklin, Sr. and wife, Sue of Tullos; daughters: Ruby Moody and husband, William of Olla, Ellen Smith and husband, Roy of Olla and Juanita Wilcoxson and husband, Joe Bob of Dallas, Texas; brothers: Tom Hamilton of Jonesville and Frankie Hamilton of Centerville, Arkansas; sisters: Ivy Ford of Olla and Catherine Allen of Spring Dale, Arkansas; sixteen grandchildren with a special granddaughter that she raised as a daughter, DeeDee Cupples Richey; lots of special grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ernest Roy Smith, Jr., Timmy Duke, Joshua Mapp, Michael Mapp, Cole Franklin and Kenny Roy Richey. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews.
The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation for the love and care given to their mother: Haven Nursing Center, Dr. Shroff and staff, Citizens Medical Center and Riser Funeral Home.
