James Batchelor Lewis

James Batchelor Lewis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, stepped into eternity with God on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at age 92. Jimmy was a positive inspiration and a joyful expression of love in both word and deed. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Unity Memorial Presbyterian Church in Liberty, Mississippi. Funeral service held after the visitation at Unity Memorial Presbyterian Church with interment in the Lewis-Street Family cemetery with Military Honors.

Jimmy was born in Liberty, Mississippi on January 26, 1921. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1942 with a BA in Business Administration and was a life-long, fierce Mississippi State fan, seizing every chance possible to attend MSU games and brag about his team. Jimmy entered into the U. S. Marine Corps, during World War II, as an armament and ordinance technician in a marine fighter squadron in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married the love of his life Ceceal Stevie Robinson on May 6, 1945, where they began their life in McComb, Mississippi. In 1946, Jimmy began working for United Gas and worked in various capacities in sales and management. His career took him from McComb, Mississippi to Jackson, Ruleville, Bunkie, and ultimately to Longbeach, Mississippi. He retired from United Gas after 38 years of service.

Always active in the community, Jimmy was a member of the Masonic Lodge #326 and Rotary Club in Bunkie. Upon retirement, he became involved with the Mississippi Homebuilders Association in Gulfport MS, where he served on the board. The Mississippi Homebuilders Association honored him for his many years of dedicated service with the annual "Jim Lewis Golf Tournament" with the proceeds going towards college scholarships. He was also an active member of First United Methodist Church of Longbeach, Mississippi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Henry Leander Lewis and Katherine Victoria Street Lewis, sisters, Katherine Norwood Lewis Briscoe, Ethel Stanley Lewis Conger, Aline Morris Lewis White, Pearl Estelle Lewis and Evelyn Lewis, brothers, Henry Leander Lewis, Jr., Charles Douglas Lewis, Thomas Street Lewis and son, Michael Robinson Lewis.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ceceal Stevie Robinson Lewis, children, Cynthia Ann Lewis, James Batchelor Lewis, Jr. and wife Deborah, grandchildren, Nicole Claire Lewis Jasper and Charmaine Anne Lewis Yarnoz, and great-grandchildren, William Cole Jasper, Bryan Michael Jasper, Grayson Olivia Jasper, Kemper Pilar Yarnoz, Michael Harcourt Yarnoz and Camila Anne Yarnoz.
