Betty Jane Fontenot Hebert

Metairie - Betty Jane Fontenot Hebert entered heaven quietly and peacefully on Sunday, January 10, 2021, just a few weeks shy of her 91st birthday. Betty was the youngest of 11 children born to Theophile and Appoline Fontenot in Ville Platte, LA. She was the last of her siblings to go to her heavenly home.

Betty is survived by her 3 daughters and their husbands: Gwen Hebert Hulse and Jack, of Metairie, LA; Tina Hebert Brockmann and Erich, of Metairie, and Kimber Hebert Miller and Bill, of Dallas, TX, as well as by her beloved granddaughters Laynie and Madeline Miller of Dallas. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, and their children, whose homes range from Coast to Coast, with many in Louisiana.

In 1952, Betty married the love of her life, Minuse "Pitch" Hebert of Mamou, LA, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage prior to his death in 2013. Pitch was a Sergeant in the Marine Corps when they married, and Betty became a career Marine's wife, moving numerous times during their 20 years of service. She quietly shouldered the responsibilities of raising their 3 daughters during Pitch's long deployments in the Mediterranean, Okinawa, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Viet Nam War. Among the life lessons that Pitch and Betty taught their girls, the two most important were that they could do anything they set their minds to and that nothing is as important as family.

Betty cherished the life-long friends she and Pitch made square dancing with the Twin City Twirlers, and playing cards weekly with friends for many years in Alexandria/Pineville. All who knew her will miss her warm green eyes, her quiet ways, and her sweet smile.

She moved to Metairie, LA, in 2016, where she had an active life at Sunrise Assisted Living and enjoyed being near her daughters. Her family is very grateful for the loving care she received there. During these months when our visits were so limited, we were blessed by the assistance of Mary Davis, Angie Doyle, Trina Pierre and Jackie Johnson.
