Dr. Charles H. van Oppen

Alexandria - Services for Dr. Charles H. van Oppen will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, in the chapel of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Binochan Pallipparambil and Rev. Gentry Mangun officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peter Catholic Church Cemetery, Elmer.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 8:30 a.m. until time of service.

Charles H. van Oppen, 92, of Alexandria, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018, at his residence.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Henriette van Oppen; one brother, Luke van Oppen; and one sister, Mary Smint.

Charles worked for the Alexandria Veterans Administration Medical Center for 39 years and 9 years part time, retiring in 2009. After retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife and was blessed to have taken three trips to Europe, including a trip with his entire family for his sisters 90th birthday. Charles was a member of the Pentecostals of Alexandria.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Allene van Oppen of Alexandria; two sons, Charles A van Oppen of Alexandria, and Robert H. van Oppen (Edith) of Fort Worth, Texas; two grandchildren, Hillary van Oppen of Fort Worth, Texas and Andriee' Davis of Austin, Texas; one sister, Genia Ottenhoff, and 13 nieces and nephews, all of the Netherlands.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the St. Peter Catholic Church Cemetery Fund at PO Box 8475, Alexandria, LA 71306; or in memory of Charles H. van Oppen to the Pentecostals of Alexandria at 2817 Rapides Ave. Alexandria, LA 71301.
