Mary Jane Smith Knight

Lena - Mary Jane Smith Knight, 91, of Lena, Louisiana passed away at her home on April 2, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Lacey L. Knight; her parents, J. Bert and Nellie Smith of Ball; sister Frances Sharp of Fort Necessity, Louisiana; and brother, J. B. (Bud) Smith, Jr. of Alexandria.

Those left to cherish her memory are her 6 children: Lynn and wife Lois of Ruby; James Wesley (Jim) of Rapides Station; Bruce and wife Gayla of Rapides Station; Brian and wife Gorettia of Lena; Jane Varholdt and husband Ted of Pollock; Amy and Tommy of Otis; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She graduated from Tioga High School in May 1946 and went to work the next month for South Central Bell Telephone Company where she worked for 7 1/2 years leaving to start a family. In her later working life she was the Boyce Branch Librarian and also Substitute Mail Carrier. In 1985 she became a full time Rural Mail Carrier and retired in 1996. Three months later she went to work at Lena Post Office as Post Master Relief and worked for 5 1/2 more years.

She will be cremated and her ashes placed beside her husband at Knight Cemetery in Sharp, Louisiana.
