What a wonderful man. I've just finished your book and am struck by your philosophy on life and incredible humility. Your description of war, particularly of D-day, helped me appreciate my own grandfather's experiences of which he could speak little. I offer you my sincere gratitude.

Hi Ray,
I was not fortunate enough to know you personally, but I read your wonderful book and watched you in several TV news features. I felt as if I had made a new friend.
I just want to thank you and honor your memory. Your courage, bravery, unselfishness and resiliency defined a generation. Even though you would deny it, you were a hero-- an American hero.
Thank you for your service, patriotism and compassion.
May You Rest In Peace!

God bless you Ray. Thank you so much for the lives that you saved in the war even though you were going through wounds of your own from the German soldier's on that Beach !! I was glad to see you made it to 100 years of age. I was glad to see that Sam Elliot told your story about the Fighting on Omaha Beach!

What an inspiring story. I happened to walk by a table in our local library and noticed his book. My father-in-law was also a medic at Normandy and I was interested to learning more about the bravery and incredible strength these men brought with them to save lives. My father in law was on the older side at 36 but made it home to his family. God bless Ray Lambert and his family, what a great memory and a true American hero.

Ray was always my Hero, even though he never spoke of his actions at Normandy. During my years of growing up I have so many happy memories of being at the lake and the great times that we had there even him trying to teach me to water ski. It was a failure, and of course he took pictures. It isn't hard to understand his bravery and survival at Normandy. In my 75 years that is the type of man he has always been. Never give up on anything you are doing. You stay with it to the end, good or bad. Rest in Peace now my brother.

This Memorial Day Weekend had me thinking about the greatest American hero that I have ever met. Doing a cursory search on the internet, I was deeply saddened to hear of Ray's passing. A brief interaction with him, at the 75th Anniversary of D-Day in Normandy in 2019, left a mark on me that I will never forget. I consider him a hero, a term that he didn't want. In fact, he told me, as we stood among the white stones of the American cemetery - "these are the heroes". None-the-less, you can not ignore the bravery of Ray's service and the valor in his efforts on that dark day in June 1944. His actions required a resolute character, a unique determination, and a selfless soul. In my brief interaction with Ray, I could tell that he was still all of these things, even at 98-years-old. But, more importantly, he was kind, genuine and caring. He took the time to talk with me that day, to learn my story, and he offered to pray for me in the days ahead. I left our meeting feeling like I was walking away from a friend. He was that special and I will always remember him. Beyond the book, beyond the heroic acts, beyond his fame and recognition - Ray Lambert was a great American simply because of his kindness. He is an example for all of us. May God Rest Your Soul Ray Lambert. Thank you my friend!

Robert, Brenda & myself were so incredibally pleased to have seen our President Donald Trump turn around & pay respect to Ray on the 75th anniversary of D-Day. I am so proud to have called Ray, my Godfather! Although time & distance had separate us, memories of Ray & Estelle on the lake well always be with me. Ray, along with his best friend Albion are my heros. Why did the world take so long to know? Condolences to Linda & the family of Arnold. We love you all, just like family. Just like. ~the Wallace's

Rare and unimaginable courage in the face of one of the most appalling horrors in human existence. Such individuals as Sgt. Ray Lambert who lived through that heroic invasion were surely under the protection of the Almighty. May he and those comrades in arms he lost that day rest in eternal peace.

Think of all that has to happen in life, for two people to meet at precisely the right time, to become friends half way around the world. Ray and I met literally by chance, June 6, 2019 at the Normandy American Cemetery while I was retrieving a wheelchair for my mother. Upon returning with it to her, there was Ray, and asked if that was for him. I took one look at his famous “D Day” survivor hat and didn’t hesitate to offer it to him. I then wheeled him up to the VIP entrance past military brass and officials like we owned the place (he did, I didn’t!) and snapped a quick photo before parting ways. That brief encounter led to a friendship that lasted until his passing. I’ll be a little selfish here and remind Ray, it may have taken 75 years, but the Marines finally got to Omaha Beach and helped you out. We love you and shall miss you. God Speed my friend. Your sacrifice and devotion to your country shall never be forgotten.

Be glad that he had so many years with you after surviving The Longest Day in world history. Ray Lambert was a true American hero who put his life on the line to save other soldiers, which he felt was his duty. Our nation and the Army were fortunate that men like Mr. Lambert did their duty,he was humble and dedicated to assisting his fellow soldiers in the 1st Infantry Division on D-Day , when they landed on Omaha Beach, Normandy, to liberate Europe from evil ,so long ago during WW11! God bless and R.I.P.
